NDLEA arrest 42 suspects with 73kg of drug valued at N5.7millions.




The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Chairman Ahmadu Giade on Wednesday said a total of 42 suspected drug traffickers with 73kg of narcotics have been arrested in the first quarter of the year.
Giade in Lagos said the arrests were made at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport with one female and 41 male.
He said the seized drugs were estimated to be N576 million, and it consist of 38.703kg of cocaine, 22.025kg of methamphetamine, 12.07kg of heroin and 120 kg of cannabis.
Giade said one of the suspects arrested within the week, 36year-old, which ingested 67 wraps of substance that tested positive to cocaine weighing 1.060kg.
He said the arrests were made during the screening of Emirate passengers on board Athens through Dubai.
Giade attributed the arrests and seizures to vigilance on the part of his officers and promised to intensify intelligence gathering efforts.
“No drug trafficker wants to be caught because of the consequences. This is the reason they adopt various means in concealing the drugs out of the reach of security agents. The arrests and seizures made in the first quarter are as a result of vigilance by officers. We are going to step up our intelligence gathering efforts in the days ahead” he stated.
He thanked other security agencies and organisations at the airport for their cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
Giade warned all drug barons of financial incapacitation through continuous drug seizures..........................................
