Federal Government closes land borders, declares April twenty-six work free.




Nigeria's land borders will be closed from Sunday April twenty-four to Wednesday April twenty-seven for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections. Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu who made this known also declared April twenty-six a work-free day for the elections.
Wogu, who is overseeing the Ministry of the Interior, also declared May two a public holiday to mark this year's workers' day which falls on a Sunday. He also said President Goodluck Jonathan urged workers to rededicate themselves to duty and continue to work hard for the economic upliftment of the nation. The minister wishes all workers a pleasant celebration while also urging all Nigerians to remain calm and conduct themselves peacefully towards a successful conclusion of the 2011 general elections.
