POLICE HIGH COMMAND RESTRICT MOVEMENT OVER NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. The Nigeria Police Force has announced movement restriction from ten in the night of Friday to six in the morning of Saturday because of the National Assembly elections. Force Public Relations Officer, Olusola Amore said For the purpose of compliance and enforcement, movement is hereby restricted from 10 p.m. on Friday, 8 April to 6 a.m. of Saturday 9 April. Amore said there will be restriction of movement of persons from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday 9 April, within the voting areas and centres. He said the restriction was to enable security agents monitor the activities of miscreants, thugs and criminal elements who might want to use the cover of darkness to interrupt the smooth conduct of the election. Amore however, clarified that persons on essential duties as well as INEC officials, properly identified with their identity cards would be exempted from the restriction order. He warned that the police would not condone any act or conduct detrimental to the smooth conduct of the election as trouble makers would be arrested and dealt with according to the law.

Court orders Obasanjo-Bello to grant access to tenant. A Lagos High Court in Igbosere has ordered Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello to allow her tenant at M10, Road 2, Victoria Garden City, Lekki, Lagos, to remove his property from her premises. Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbeji gave the order on Thursday at the resumed hearing of the case filed by Martin Abhulimhen against Obasanjo-Bello. Abhulimhen is seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from evicting him without recourse to the due process of law. He is also seeking a declaration that the attempt by Obasanjo-Bello to forcefully evict him from the property was illegal, unlawful, null and void. The claimant is also praying the court to award him the sum of N200million as damages for trespass to his quiet enjoyment of the property. In his affidavit, Abhulimhen alleged that he entered into a tenancy relationship with the defendant for a period of two years at an agreed sum of N5 million. He also alleged that after payment, he and his family had quiet enjoyment of the apartment without any disturbance from the defendant. According to him, he departed the premises with his family to pursue a Doctorate degree programme in the United Kingdom, leaving his sister, Faith Ajayi in occupation of the apartment. Abhulimhen also stated that while his tenance had not expired, the defendant stationed armed mobile policemen at the gate, with an instruction to bar him and his family members from entering the premises. Obasanjo-Bello is yet to file a defence despite being served with the court processes. Justice Olateru-Olagbeji adjourned the case till July 4 for trial.

Fire guts AIT/RAYPOWER The administrative block of DAAR Communications headquarters in Lagos, the parent body of AIT and RAYPower FM station was today gutted by fire. General Manager of Raypower FM, Yewande Iwuoha said only the administrative block was affected. Iwuoha said the fire service people have been able to put out the fire from spreading to other facilities. The Lagos State police spokesman, Samuel Jinadu, a superintendent of police, who confirmed the incident, said no death was recorded. He said the police were in the area to keep off hoodlums.

Police arraign 3 for sealing off church Three men were on Thursday in Lagos arraigned for unlawfully sealing off a church. The accused -- Kelechi Eze, 27; Israel Jeremiah, 20 and Osita Atusiaka, 27 –are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace at an Apapa Senior Magistrates' Court. The trio, however, pleaded not guilty. But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Uche Kalu, insisted that the accused had a case to answer, alleging that they prevented the pastors and members of the church (name withheld) from conducting fellowships. He said the accused conspired with one Solomon Akpan-- still at large and sealed the premises of Pastor Fidelis Isige’s church at 76, Babani St., Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos. He said by the action of the accused they caused a breach of the peace. Kalu said the offence, which was committed on March 27, contravened Sections 249 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State. The Senior Magistrate, A. K. Shonubi admitted the accused to a bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till April 15.

61-year-old charged with stealing co-tenant’s N1.6m The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 61-year-old tenant, Sonny Fofah for allegedly breaking into the apartment of his co-tenant and stealing property worth N1.6 million. Fofah, a businessman, is facing trial before a Surulere Magistrates’ court but he pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge. The prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ishola, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence in March at No 4, Simisola St., Surulere. He said Fofah damaged the door to the living room of the co-tenant, Segun Odetola, gained access to the room and stole Odetola’s property. He noted that the alleged offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 411 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State. Magistrate Ari Niki-Tobi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Niki-Tobi directed that the sureties must have evidence of tax payment. The case has been adjourned till May 5 for further hearing.

20-yr-old bags 6-month jail term for stealing motorcycle A 20-year-old man, Afeez Kolade on Thursday bagged a six-month jail term at the Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for stealing an unregistered motorcycle valued N95,000. Magistrate T. Abolarinwa sent Kolade to the Ikoyi Prisons without an option of fine. The two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing was read and interpreted thrice to the convict, who accepted committing the offence. The Prosecutor, Cpl. Isaac Aminu told the court that Kolade was intercepted by a pedestrian while pushing a Boxer motorcycle across the railway line at Ebute Meta. Aminu said the pedestrian, who had earlier lost his motorcycle, stopped the convict to enquire where he got it and where he was pushing it to. The Prosecutor said the convict could not produce the particulars nor give a reasonable explanation on how he came about the motorcycle. He said the offence contravened sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
