Lagos police investigate death in PZ factory
The police in Lagos on Wednesday confirmed the death of a 39-year-old worker with Patterson Zochonis Industries (PZ), Ikorodu Branch, Bolaji Sekoni.
Sekoni died on Dec. 9 when a body cream mixing machine he was working with exploded and seriously injured him and another worker.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Lagos State, Samuel Jinadu,said Sekoni’s death was reported by PZ and was being treated as an “industrial accident”.
According to the police, while Sekoni died of the injuries he sustained in the factory shortly after the accident, his injured colleague has remained in hospital and is responding to treatment.
Jinadu said that the body had been deposited at the mortuary of the Ikeja General Hospital, adding that an autopsy would soon be performed to ascertain the cause of death.
Meanwhile, PZ has described Sekoni’s death as “a great loss to the management of PZ and not just to his family; he was a hard working member of staff’’.
The corporate affairs director of PZ, Mrs Yomi Ifaturoti, said although there was an accident at the Ikorodu branch of the industries at about 3 p.m. on Dec. 9, involving two workers, it was, however, not due to an explosion.
Also, Sekoni's brother, Bayo, who is an editor with the News Agency of Nigeria, described the fatal factory accident as a big blow to their family.
Bayo also confirmed that the family had met with the management of PZ Industries to ensure that the actual cause of the accident was uncovered.

The police in Area ‘H’ Command, Ogudu, Lagos State, have arrested a robbery suspect at Ojota during a stop and search operation.
The suspect identified as Ayoade Faride was said to have been driving a Toyota Tacona pickup van marked DR434APP when he was flagged down by the police. According to the police, when the vehicle was searched, a pair of Nigeria Air force uniforms and two tear gas canisters were discovered.
During interrogation, the man could not give an account of the items and was, therefore, arrested and taken to the police station for further interrogation.
Our police said that when the suspect’s house at 32, Adewatu Street, Egbeda was searched, two revolver pistols, 88 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, 25 live cartridges and two military camouflage face caps.
The suspect was later transferred to the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba.
Lagos State Police image maker, Samuel Jinadu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, warned criminals in the state to desist from criminal activities as the police is battle ready to deal with them.
“I am advising criminals in the state to look for good jobs to do rather than involve in criminal activities because anyone caught will be severally dealt with as the police is battle ready for them.”
In another development, the police in Ketu Police Station, Lagos State, are trying to unravel the circumstances leading to the fire that razed buildings in Ketu market.
According to the police, the cause of the fire still remains a mystery as most parts of the shanty buildings were consumed by the fire before the arrival of the police and fire fighters.
