Abuja blast: House to enact laws to check recurrence -- Bankole.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, says that the House will soon enact laws to curb the spate of bombings in the country.
Bankole said this in Abuja shortly after he visited the bomb blast site in the Mogadishu cantonment and the casualties at Asokoro General Hospital.
Bankole assured the families of those who died in the blast that they would be taken care of.
The Speaker urged the hospital’s medical personnel to ensure that those undergoing treatment became well soon.
He, however, gave the assurance that security agencies were on top of the situation to ensure that normalcy returned to the country’s capital city.
FCT Minister Bala Mohammed, who accompanied the minister on the visit, however, condemned the dastardly act.
He said that the primary aim of the perpetrators of the blast was to cause chaos in the country.
Mohammed, however, gave the assurance that such acts would never deter the government from serving the citizenry.
Mike Aghahowa, the Director of Clinical Services in the FCT, said that four persons died in the explosion, while 12 persons with serious injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment.
He said that five of the 12 wounded persons were operated upon, adding that they were now, however, in stable conditions.
Joyce Obutumi, wife of one of the victims, thanked God for sparing the life of her husband.
She, however, appealed to the government to do everything possible to safeguard the people’s lives and property.
