Molue Bus Crushes NURTW Man.

Tragedy struck at Obalende bus stop in Lagos Island last night when a Lagos commuter bus popularly known as molue crushed to death a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, simply identified as Wasiu a.k.a. Eleda.

The rear tyre of the molue was said to have hit the deceased on the head near the Obalende bridge as the driver tried to evade arrest by a Task Force.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the molue driver was discharging and carrying passengers at an unauthorised spot when he sighted men of the Task Force. As he tried to evade arrest, he overran the NURTW man, Wasiu, who belonged to the long buses unit of the union.

The corpse of the late unionist has been removed by the police and deposited at the mortuary, while the police have intensified search for the molue driver.

Secretary of the NURTW, Obalende unit, Comrade Azu Oko described the incident as unfortunate.

He said the late Wasiu was a humble and gentleman, adding that he was not on the main road.

Oko warned motorists not to load passengers by the road side but to make use of the bus shelter the government provided for them.
