NDLEA arrests final year student for alleged drug trafficking

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has saved a final year student of Economics at the Anambra State University, Igbariam, Egboaka Onyeka Matthew, from possible execution in Malaysia.

The undergraduate was arrested at the Murtala Mouhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, during the screening of passengers on an Emirates flight to Malaysia.

The suspect allegedly ingested 68 wraps of substance that tested positive for methamphetamine weighing 1.210kilogrammes.

NDLEA Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, said the 26-year-old suspect may have jeopardised his educational career over his lust for $5,000.

He said: "Egboaka tested positive to drug ingestion, with the aid of scanning machine, at the departure hall of the airport.

While he was under observation, he excreted 68 wraps of substance that tested positive to methamphetamine weighing 1.210kilogrammes. This may affect the pursuit of his educational career."

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, described the suspect’s action was sad and daring.

He said his involvement in drug trafficking was unthinkable, given the consequences on his career.

The suspect will soon be charged to court.
