Jonathan inspects scene of Abuja explosion, commends the military.
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday inspected the scene of New Year eve’s bomb explosions at Mammy market in Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
The President, who was accompanied by his wife, Patience, commended the military authorities for reducing the number of casualties through speedy evacuation of people from the market after the first explosion.
The President and his wife also visited victims of the explosions at the Asokoro General Hospital.
They went round the wards where the injured persons have been receiving treatment and wished them speedy recovery.
It will be recalled that four persons were killed and 26 others wounded in the explosion at about 7.30 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the market.
The market reportedly recorded the second explosion at about 11 p.m. after the military men had successfully evacuated people from the site.
Meanwhile, the President has called for greater unity, support and prayers of all Nigerians for his administration to overcome the challenge of terrorism.
He made the call on Sunday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, where he worshipped at the first Sunday Service of the Year 2011.
Addressing the congregation, Jonathan said his New Year wish was for all Nigerians to work together for national development with greater cohesion and unity of purpose.
He urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by the bomb explosions which claimed the lives of innocent citizens in Abuja and Jos recently.
The President said that such dastardly acts should not be allowed to distract the nation from its march towards sustainable growth and progress.
The President said his Administration would continue to work hard to provide an enabling environment for rapid economic growth and development in the country.
He said power supply and other essential public infrastructure would continue to receive priority attention from the Federal Government.
The parish priest, Revend Father Innocent Jooji, had earlier enjoined the President to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal public service by ensuring that credible professionals were placed at the helms of affairs in key ministries.

The Director, Chaplain Services Nigerian Army, Lieutenant-Colonel Dawuk Danfulani has cautioned officers and men to shun partisan politics.
Danfulani, a Reverend, said in Lagos on Sunday that soldiers, who are Christians, should be faithful to their oath and remain apolitical.
He said the best soldiers could do under the democratic dispensation was to exercise their rights to vote at an election.
They can only vote but cannot be voted; so there is no need to be partisan,’’ Danfulani said, and urged soldiers to continue to pray for Nigeria and display true Christian virtues.
As soldiers, we should be security conscious and be the chief security officer over our lives, families and the citizens, he said.
