NDLEA arrests varsity student over illegal drug

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has, again, saved a final year student of Economics of Anambra State University, Igbariam, from possible execution in Malaysia.

The alleged undergraduate was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA)Ikeja, Lagos, during the screening of passengers on an Emirate flight to Malaysia.

The suspect, according to a press statement signed by the spokesman of the agency, Mitchel Ofoyeju, in Lagos, stated that the the suspect allegedly ingested 68 wraps of substance that tested positive for methamphetamine weighing 1.210 kilogramme.

The NDLEA airport commander, Hamza Umar, said the 26-year-old suspect, Egboaka Onyeka Matthew, might have jeopardised his educational career over his lust for $5,000.

“Egboaka tested positive to drug ingestion with the aid of scanning machine at the departure hall of the airport.

While he was under observation, he excreted 68 wraps of a substance that tested positive to methamphetamine weighing 1.210 kilogramme.

This may affect the pursuit of his educational career,” Hamza stated.Also, the Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, described the suspect’s action as sad.

Giade further stated that his involvement in drug trafficking was unthinkable given the grave consequences on his career.

He said that the suspect also risked capital punishment if caught in Malaysia for drug trafficking and urged the youth to be patient in life and resist get rich quick syndrome that might lure them into crime.
