CLO condemns murder of human rights activist
The Abia chapter of the Civil Liberties Organisation has condemned the murder of Mr Chidi Nwosu, the South-East Coordinator of Campaign for Democracy.
Addressing newsmen in Umuahia on Monday, Ifeanyi Onwuneme, the chairman of CLO in the state, described the death as big loss to the human rights community.
Onwuneme called on the state government to institute a panel to investigate the death, while urging the police to fish out Nwosu’s killers and bring them to justice.
He said that the assassination had thrown up fresh security challenges to the state government, which has been trying to crush the thriving kidnap business in the state.
The chairman commended Gov. Theodore Orji for taking proactive steps by directing the police to leave no stone unturned in their effort to apprehend the culprits.
He, however, advised residents to be security conscious and vigilant before, during and after the 2011 general elections.
Nwosu was the founder of the Umuahia-based Human Rights, Justice and Peace Foundation.
He was killed by gun men on Dec. 29 in his country-home at Ameke-Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia.
