FEC adopts report on Boko Haram

The Federal Executive Council says it will implement all the recommendations by the seven man presidential committee set up to identify the faces behind the activities of Boko haram sect and their grievances in addressing the security challenges in the north east region of the country.

The decision is following a comprehensive deliberation on the white paper submitted by the sub-committee headed by the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moru that worked on the entire report that centered on the identification of the faces behind the activities of Boko Haram sect and their grievances.

Following the series of attacks by fundamentalist sect-Boko Haram and the subsequent destruction of lives and property, the federal government in July 2011 set up a committee-one out of the numerous others-to “identify the faces behind the activities of the Boko haram sect and their grievances.”

The committee headed by Alhaji Usman Galtimari, has since submitted its report which the federal executive council produced a white paper on their recommendations and it announced,that the gazette will soon be made known to the public.

The Minister of information Mr. Labaran Maku who spoke to state house correspondents after the meeting says that FEC attaches importance to peace, not only in the north east but all parts of the country.

He stated that the recommendations will now be sent to the Ministry of Justice which will come up with a gazette paper that will be made known to the public.

According to him, “government is taking every measure possible to ensure that violence will be defeated in any part of the federation.”

The council also agreed that hence forth appropriate action will be taken to ensure that peace reigns in the country.

Also, the Minister of the Interior, Abba Moro made it known that “some of the recommendations of the white paper will go a long way to assuage frayed nerves by the time the Ministry of Justice finishes with it.”

Other issues that took the attention of the Federal Executive Council include was how to attract investment into the country using the infrastructure concession and regulatory commission report.

The council instructed all ministries, departments and agencies to prepare all appropriate projects for public private participation in a transparent manner.

The council also agreed that it must be quick with the implementation of the infrastructure concession and regulatory recommendations, for the Vision 202020 and the transformation agenda of the federal government to be realized.
