Corruption: German Group Seeks Ties With ICPC.
A German socio- political organisation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in Abuja, indicated willingness to partner with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, ICPC, in tackling corruption in the country.
Ex-German Parliamentarian, Mr. Klaus Juergen Hedrich gave this indication when he led a delegation of the foundation on a courtesy visit to the ICPC headquarters.
He observed that corruption is not peculiar to Nigeria alone and stressed that partnership between the ICPC and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation would help strengthen the modest efforts being made by the commission in fighting the menace.
Klaus emphasized that Germany is interested in offering assistance to Nigeria in dealing with corruption and stated that his country had successfully curbed the malaise years ago.
He called on the ICPC to embrace to embrace training and retraining of its personnel, to be able the organization withstand new challenges in the fight against corruption.
He stressed that his foundation will continue to support the agency with technical assistance, wherever necessary.
In his response, the Acting Chairman of the ICPC, Barr. Ekpo Nta, noted that the agency was in a hurry to sanitize the Nigerian system, but urged the Foundation to specifically highlight training of Nigerian journalists in the area of investigative reporting.
He observed that such would complement the advocacy work done by the ICPC in deterring people from engaging in fraudulent acts, especially since the foundation was involved in training of journalists.
Ekpo welcomed the partnership with the foundation and stated that the ICPC had scheduled September 2012 for the operation of her Anti Corruption Academy.
