Police kill six armed robber in Port-Harcourt
Six suspected armed robbers were gunned down by officers of the Nigerian Police Force during an exchange of gun-fire in the D-Line axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital on Monday.
Parading the corpses of the hoodlums before journalists at the Police headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Benjamin Ugwuegbulem said the suspects attempted to escape after robbing a middle-aged man of N2.1 million at the Orogbum area of D-Line.
Ugwuegbulem stated that the middle-aged man had withdrawn the money at a branch of a new generation bank along Olu Obasanjo Road and was driving to his office on Woji Road, GRA, Port-Harcourt, when the armed robbers blocked him with a Toyota Hilux Van.
He further disclosed that residents of the area made distress calls to the police, who in turn “placed all its patrol teams across the state capital on red alert.”
The police spokesman said the hoodlums, who snatched a Kia Ceranto salon car while escaping opened fire on police officers when it was obvious that their escape routes had been blocked.
Ugwuegbulem also in the process exchange of fire, the police killed six members of the gang in the process while two others escaped with bullet wounds.
Items recovered from the hoodlums included a Toyota Hiliux van and a Kia Ceranto salon car, both bullets ridden as well as two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, ten rounds of 3.8 mm ammunition and the sum of N500, 000 believed to be part of the stolen N 2.1 million
