FRSC arrests 1,319 for traffic offences in Ekiti.

Rindom Kumven, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ekiti, says it arrested 1, 319 persons for various traffic offences in the state.
Kumven made this known in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the activities of his command in the first quarter of 2012.
He said the command also impounded 651 vehicles over road traffic violations during the period under review.
A breakdown of the figure showed that ``28 offenders were arrested in January for 29 offences; 325 in February for 336 offences and 310 arrested for 314 offences in March, this year.
``In the same vein, 260 offenders were arrested for seat belt violation; 232 for riding motorcycle without helmet; 88 for light/caution sign violation and 39 for number plate violation.
``Twenty-five for fire extinguisher violation, 12 for worn-out tire-violation, among others. ’’
He said the command impounded the 651 vehicles across the state for 679 offences within the first quarter of this year.
Kunmven said non-compliance with the mandatory wearing of crash helmets by commercial motorcycle operators was a challenge confronting the command.
He said also a large number of drivers in the state still drive without the use of seat belt.
The commander said the sector had been carrying out public enlightenment programmes to educate road users, especially commercial motorcyclists on the use of crash helmet.
