Terrorism: Security chief urges mothers to monitor children.
Ms Marilyn Ogar, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Department of State Security Services, wants Nigerian women to monitor their children to ensure that they are not used to perpetrate terrorism.
Ogar spoke on Wednesday, in Abuja, at a forum to consider “The role of Women in Economic Development and National Transformation”.
The Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT) organised the forum.
“Some boys get into violence and misbehaviour because no one cares for them: Nigerian women must mother their husbands and tender their children to make our nation a secure place to live in,’’ she said.
The deputy director urged women to be security conscious in view of the spate of bombings in some parts of the country.
She also advised women to spend less on jewellery and more on family building which could impact positively on the nation.
Also speaking, Babatunde Fowler, the Chairman of Lagos Inland Revenue Service, advised women to use their potentials for the country’s benefit.
He urged women to be agents of change in order to attain and accelerate the country’s transformation agenda.
Fowler urged the Federal Government to increase the slots for women in government to enhance competition and ensure good governance.
“If a woman deserves the post of President of this country, they (she) should be given; a right person for the right position,’’ the chairman said.
SWIT was formally inaugurated in May 2007 as an arm of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria as an umbrella body to meet the yearnings and aspirations of women on issues concerning tax.
