PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN

Jonathan calls for attitidinal change to tackle insecurity.

President Goodluck Jonathan has called for attitudinal change among Nigerians to tackle the security challenge in the country.
Jonathan made the call at the official launching of "Do The Right Thing": Transform Nigeria", campaign by the National Orientation Agency.
He said all Nigerian must see themselves  as one and pay allegiance to the country through responsible behaviour.
Jonathan said his administration would not rest on its oars to address the daunting challenges posed by insecurity but added that the citizens must play their part in the fight to restore peace.
He said the campaign by NOA was another major effort by the government to inculcate attitudinal change in the people.
This is a moral re- awakening programme that will galvanise the people to greatness which lies in the right attitude, the president said.
He said  the charge was to offer the nation a new lease of life as no nation could grow without a remarkable change in the citizens' attitude and advised NOA to ensure that all Nigerians bought into the transformation agenda of the administration.
The President who spoke through Minister of Culture and Tourism,  Edem Duke said although the task could be difficult, it would get support from the administration.
Earlier, Mike Omeri, the Director General of NOA, said it was a programme intended to make all Nigerians, irrespective of class and status, to always do the right thing.
"It is a value orientation campaign that seeks to create a deliberate consciousness in Nigerians to do what is right,’’ Omeri said.
He said  the logo of the campaign was to strike the conscience of the people on the need to join hands in the development of the country.
According to him, it is the beginning of a new thing that will daily remind Nigerians of the need to be part of the building of a fatherland where justice and progress are assured.
Omeri urged Nigerians to always examine their conscience while undertaking a task in the name of the country.
The director-general urged Nigerians to cooperate with the president to transform Nigeria by ensuring peace, saying,  ``there is hope for Nigerians if we work together to transform the country.’’
He said the campaign would seek the partnership of stakeholders as it would involve house-to-house engagement and around the neighbourhood.
Awujale urges FG to address national security
Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, has appealed to the Federal Government to pay more attention to the security situation in the country.
Adetona made the appeal  in Ijebu-Ode when Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.
He decried the level of insecurity in the country and urged the  Federal Government to do everything within its powers to secure the lives and property of the people.
``I want to implore the Federal Government to pay more attention to the issue of security in the country.
``If we build schools, roads and hospitals and there is no adequate security, who will then enjoy the facilities?
``The Federal Government should therefore do all it can to provide adequate security, even if it means spending all the revenue on it,`` Adetona said.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for the developmental projects which he sited in Ijebuland and  urged him not to relent in his efforts to take the state to an enviable position.
In his response, Amosun said he would continue to fulfil his electoral promises to the people.
