Police defuses two bombs at Bayero University Kano
Two locally-made high calibre time bombs were on Tuesday discovered and defused at the old campus of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The bombs were discovered at the Faculty of Science, Sports Complex and in front of the Sub-Dean’s office, Faculty of Law of the school.
An eyewitness who wished not to be named said that a strange object was found in the area and the police were alerted.The bombs were discovered at the Faculty of Science, Sports Complex and in front of the Sub-Dean’s office, Faculty of Law of the school.
Following the alert, the police immediately deployed officers from its anti-bomb unit to the scene.
“There is a total confusion as students and lecturers and non-academic staff could be seen running out of the campus”, an eyewitness said.
Police spokesman Magaji Musa Majiya who confirmed the discovery of the bombs said that the university personnel alerted the police after finding the bombs in the science and law buildings and at the sports complex of Bayero University.
Tuesday incident is the second in recent weeks as similar high calibre bombs was uncovered two weeks ago at the Sociology Department of the institution.
Twenty persons including two university professors were killed while several others were injured when gunmen attacked worshippers at the St Stephen Catholic Church, Bayero University, Kano last two Sundays.
Gunmen armed with bombs attacked the Church in the early hours of Sunday morning, throwing explosives into the congregation.
