Fraud: Party Chairman docked for allegedly stealing N12 million.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Progressive Party, Damian Ogbona, was on Wednesday docked at an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding the party of N12 million.

The First information Report as saying that the accused person conspired with the Deputy National President of the party in the South-West, Olusegun Akinyele and the National Treasurer of the party, Jennifer Nkiru, to commit the alleged offence.

They were charged for Criminal conspiracy, Criminal breach of trust and cheating contrary to sections 97, 312 and 333 of the Penal code law.

The Prosecution counsel, Simon Lough told the court that the offence was reported to the police on December 13, 2007 by the National Secretary of the party, Usman Griel.

The FIR said that the accused allegedly withdrew the money from the party’s account and converted same to his use without informing other members.

Hafsat Soso, the Chief Magistrate had set aside her earlier order directing the police to avail the accused person with documents obtained during the time of investigation at the instance of the prosecution counsel.

The matter was adjourned to Jan. 27, 2011, for continuation of hearing.

The accused who was on bail was re-arrested by the police who had laid ambush for him outside the court premises on fresh charges.

The Police had accused him of defrauding the Yobe State Government to the tune of N15 million in a contract transaction for the supply of Hospital equipment.

The party Chief was eventually whisked away in a waiting taxi cab by plain clothes policemen to unknown destination.
