Steer clear of partisan politics, Ringim warns police commissioners.

Ahead of the 2011 elections, the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, on Thursday warned Commissioners of Police against involvement in partisan politics.

Ringim gave the warning while decorating 32 newly promoted Commissioners of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He said with the approaching elections, Police Commissioners would be the centre of attraction even though other law enforcement agencies were required to provide some form of assistance.

He said for the police to be given the required leadership, the commissioners must remain apolitical to enable all aspirants and candidates have a level playing field.

Ringim, while congratulating the commissioners, however, pointed out that promotion in the Force was a privilege and not a right.

He also announced the death Oladele Ajiboye, one of the newly promoted Commissioners of Police, and asked that a minute’s silence be observed in his honour.

Olusola Amore, the new Force Public Relations Officer, was also decorated with his new rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police at the ceremony.
