Special Patrol: FRSC arrests, prosecutes 2,797 traffic offenders.

The FRSC arrested and prosecuted 2,797 traffic offenders across the country since it began its special patrol on Dec. 1, according to a statement issued by the organisation.

The statement signed by Charles Akpabio, FRSC Public Education Officer, on Thursday in Abuja said that Kwara with 479 recorded the highest number of offenders.

It also stated that Ogun and Kaduna states followed with 464 and 287 offenders, respectively.

It said that the offences ranged from failure to use seat belts to traffic light and fire extinguisher violation.

The statement said that FRSC had set up 75 mobile courts along some designated points across the highways as part of measures to ensure quick dispensation of traffic-related cases.

It said that personnel, towing trucks, ambulances and operational vehicles had been deployed to designated points to deal with peculiar traffic challenges associated with the Christmas celebration.

It said that since the special patrol began, 309 accidents had been recorded in which 232 people died and 1,088 others were wounded, some seriously.

The statement said that a total of 486 vehicles and 2,639 persons were involved in the accidents.
