PPRO LAGOS COMMAND OF POLICE

Police arrest 4 suspected robbers, kill one.

The police in Lagos on Wednesday said they had arrested four suspected armed robbers and killed one in a shootout.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command,Frank Mba said the suspects were arrested at about 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday on Balogun-Martins Street on the Lagos Island.

He said a six-man robbery gang attempted to rob some people in the area but a team of anti-robbery policemen attached to the Lion Building foiled the operation.

According to him, the suspects had made useful statements that would help the police to trail the others.

Mba said a member of another suspected gang of armed robbers, who attempted to rob residents of Ojo Town on Tuesday night, was killed in a shootout with the police.

He said during the shootout, one of the gang members received bullet wounds but died on the way to hospital.

He said the incident happened at about 9 p.m . at NEPA-Olojo Drive, Ojo, during a stop-and-search operation by the police.

The police spokesman said that one Beretta pistol and eight live ammunition were recovered from the dead suspect.

Mba said the two cases had been transferred to the State CID Panti for further investigation.
