Driver arraigned for allegedly causing colleague to lose an eye .

The police on Wednesday arraigned a driver, Nurudeen Salami, for allegedly assaulting a colleague and consequently injuring him on his left eye.

Salami, 29, is standing trial before an Ikorodu Magistrates Court in Lagos on a one-count charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Fola Takunbe, told the court that Salami struck his victim, Riliwan Oseni, with a stick following a disagreement and thereby caused the loss of his left eye.

Takunbe said the offence was committed on Dec. 21 at PZ premises, Odonjunyan in Ikorodu.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 338 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Salami pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of assault.

Magistrate, Ademola Adesanya, granted the accused N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Adesanya, however, adjourned the case till Feb. 2 for mention.

Man sentenced to 1 year imprisonment for fraud

An Ikorodu Magistrates Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 29-year-old man, Felix Oseyen, to one-year imprisonment, for fraud.

Magistrate, Ademola Adesanya, jailed Oseyen after he had pleaded guilty to the one-count charge.

Adesanya said the court had a duty to protect citizens` property.

The convict fraudulently obtained N50,000 from one Bolaji Mabadeje of Maya Village in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Prosecutor, Fola Takunbe, said that the convict committed the offence on Dec. 11.

Takunbe had told the court that Oseyen had sent a text message to Mabadeje and threatened to eliminate him unless the amount was paid into his Bank PHB account.
