Adoke wants IG to prosecute policemen involved in alleged rape of 16-year-old girl.

The Ministry of Justice has called on the Inspector-General of Police to arrest and prosecution the policemen involved in the alleged abduction and rape of a 16-year-old girl in Kano.

In a statement in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), said the dastardly act was criminal and constituted a grave violation of the victim’s fundamental right to respect and dignity.

The statement condemned the attitude of the Police High Command in remaining silent on the incident that had attracted wide publicity and public condemnation.

It said, it is indeed worrisome for the image of the Nigeria Police and that of the entire nation.

The statement expressed concern that the incident occurred a few days after the Inspector General of Police had assured the nation that the police would ensure the safety and security of Nigerians.

When contacted, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajayi, said the policemen involved in the incident had been dismissed.

Ajayi also said that they would soon appear in court for trial.
