Drug war: Britain assures Nigeria of support

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Bob Dewar, on Thursday reiterated his country's readiness to partner the NDLEA in fighting drug trafficking.

Dewar gave the assurance at the agency’s headquarters in Lagos during a farewell visit to the anti-narcotic body on Thursday.

Britain and Nigeria have had excellent working relations in drug control.

This will be sustained in the interest of both countries and humanity, NDLEA spokesman, Miitchell Ofoyeju, quoted the envoy as saying in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

The statement also quoted the NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, as saying that the success recorded by the agency in its operations was derived from effective collaboration.

Giade also said Nigeria considered Britain as a very vital partner in the fight to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates.

Partnering with your government has greatly enhanced our operations.

Britain is a strategic ally in our drug control programmes and we are prepared to build on the gains so far achieved,’’ Giade said.
