Truck driver arraigned for diverting Dangote flour.

A truck driver, Ibrahim Wasiu, on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos charged with stealing 600 bags of flour worth N2.3 million, property of Dangote Group of Companies.

Wasiu, 32, and Nurudeen Oseni, 27, are standing trial before a Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Ojo, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Innocent Effiong, said the driver and his accomplice allegedly stole the flour used for making noodles pastry by Dangote Group of Companies.

Effiong said Wasiu’s truck was hired by Dangote to deliver the flour to its office at Apapa in Lagos but the accused and Oseni, a loader, diverted the consignment to an unknown destination.

He said the incident occurred on Nov. 14, at the Wharf in Apapa, Lagos.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused each pleaded not guilty and were admitted to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The offence attracts seven years imprisonment

Ojo adjourned further hearing in the case till Feb. 1, 2011.
