Man tells court: "My wife abandoned our matrimonial home for UK.

I returned from work one day and discovered that my wife had left our matrimonial home with my one-and-half-year old son and my pregnancy for the United Kingdom without my consent”, a banker told an Ikeja high Court on Wednesday.

while asking for the dissolution of his five year old marriage.

Godwin Okoronkwo hinged the request for the dissolution of his five-year old marriage to Grace on the grounds that she abandoned him.

He told the court presided over by Justice Joseph Oyewole that they got married at the Surulere Marriage Registry on June 23, 2005 and they cohabited at 402 Road, "E" Close, Block 11 Festac Town, Lagos until April 27, 2007 when the petitioner left unannounced.

According to him, the marriage has broken down irretrievably because all efforts to get audience with Grace have been futile.

He also claimed her family members have not been helping his move to locate her adding that it was not normal to continue to wait because all efforts have been abortive.

Okoronkwo, however, prayed the court for an order to enable him take care of the children financially, not minding the fact that they reside with the respondent in the UK.

The children are both in the respondent’s custody but I wish to take care of them financially. The marriage has broken down and we have been living apart consistently for a period of three years.

All efforts to get to her proved abortive; even her families have not been helpful. So, I want the marriage dissolved.”

Justice Oyewole adjourned the matter until Jan. 20, next year for cross examination and defence.
