Policeman arrested in Lagos on alleged killing

A policeman with the Lagos State police command has been arrested for allegedly killing one Femi Best in a circumstance yet to be ascertained.

Police Spokesman, Frank Mba who made this known, said the policeman was arrested on Sunday.

At about 5.00 a.m. on Sunday, a young man identified as Femi Best was shot and fatally injured in front of Onipanu police station under circumstances yet to be determined. He died on the way to the hospital.

The incident drew the attention of the Onipanu police Station, which secured the scene of crime and carried out preliminary investigation before the arrival of detectives from the Homicide Department, State CID, Panti-Yaba.

A police officer attached to the command accused of being the author of the crime has been arrested and currently assisting the investigators.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in a government mortuary for autopsy,” ´Mba added.

He said the Commissioner of police, Marvel Akpoyibo and other senior police officers in the state had visited the scene of crime for an on-the-spot assessment.

Mba said the command commiserates with the families and friends of the deceased, and gave the assurance of swift and discreet investigation into the killing.

Mba said normalcy had returned to the area as more policemen were drafted to avoid break down of law and order.
