The police on Tuesday arraigned two friends, Wole Owolabi, 24, and Temitope Abioye, 24, for allegedly duping a woman of N3 million under the pretext of delivering her from demonic attacks.
The accused are standing trial before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chris Takim, told the court that the accused conspired and unlawfully obtained N3 million from Mrs Janet Rufus, claiming they had spiritual powers to deliver her from demonic attacks.
He said Rufus went back to the defendants for a refund when her situation did not improve and realised that she had been duped.
Takim said Owolabi and Abioye were, however, unable to produce the money.
He said the alleged offence was committed on Feb. 18 at Mosalashi Bus stop Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, A.O. Adedayo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Sept. 1, for mention.
