Three businessmen have appeared before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly importing 100,000 cartridges and 55 rounds of live ammunition without authorisation.
The accused Martins Anokwara(52), Moshood Kolawole(40) and Raufu Ishola (49)were charged with conspiracy, unlawful importation and unlawful possession of firearms.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Peter Nwangwu, said that Anokwara imported the arms and ammunition through the border town of Shaki, Oyo State in February without a license.
Nwangwu said the police found the arms and ammunition, including a Beretta pistol with Serial No. 825665, with Kolawole and Ishola at the border town.
He said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 27(1), 27(1) and 27 (b) of the Firearms Act.
All the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail by Magistrate Foluke Davies-Abegunde in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum each.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Oct. 29 for further hearing.
