The police in Lagos has arraigned a man who allegedly received premiums on behalf of the Industrial General Insurance Plc but failed to remit them.
The accused, Benedict Young (34), was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court with defrauding the insurance firm in the guise of being its accredited agent.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of fraud and stealing, and was granted bail by Magistrate O.J. Awope in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties.
The prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Onwuemene, said the accused commited the alleged offences between January 2009 and July 2010 at the Hopewell Street, Victoria Island.
The prosecutor noted that the alleged offences contravened Sections 419, 427 and 390 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State.
The court adjourned the case till Sept. 9 for further hearing.
