Saka Lawal, a respondent in a divorce suit before an Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, has consented to the dissolution of the marriage, provided that his estranged wife would keep their three children.
Lawal, 56, a textile operator, told the Grade `A’ Customary Court that he was not opposed to the break-up of the six-year-old marriage and offered to pay N6,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep.
The children are aged two years, five years and six years.
Mutiat Lawal, the petitioner, had urged the court to dissolve the union, claiming lack of care by her spouse.
She said for the six years of her marriage, Lawal never cared for her and their three children.
Lawal, however, accused his estranged wife of not appreciating his effort in spite of all he had done for the family.
The President of the court,Remi Adesanya, said that efforts to reconcile the couple had proved abortive since the petitioner had married another man.
The court has no option than to consider dissolving the union,” Adesanya said.
She consequently adjourned the case till Aug. 12 for judgment.
