Azubuko Udah, the AIG, Zone II of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos has called on officers and men of the force to embrace sports as a form of recreation.
Udah made the call in Lagos at a news briefing to formally present the trophy for the maiden Police Unity Cup football competition which would hold in October.
He urged individuals and corporate bodies to support the NPF in its bid to revive sports in the force.
The zonal commands of the Force nationwide will vie for honours during the tournament.
The sponsor,Oladipupo Ojomo said the police used to maintain enviable position in sports and national life and hoped that the Police teams would not be forgotten.
He urged the government to appreciate the contributions of notable citizens and honour what they stood for.
Ojomo also urged the government to honour people while they were alive because it was through such that others would be motivated to bring out their best in the society.
He said the Police Unity Cup was tagged ONOVO 2010 to honour the I-G Ogbonna Onovo.
Ojomo commended Onovo for accepting the cup to be competed for in his name and noted his efforts to cement the gap between the NPF and the citizens.
