The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned a 41-year-old man at the Surulere Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining N2 million with the pretence of procuring a German visa for a complainant.
Victor Okorie is facing a two-count charge of theft and collecting money under pretext before Chief Magistrate Mrs Abiola Soladoye.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Olaide, said Okorie on July 2009 collected N1 million from one Mrs Doris Adigwe to help procure a German visa and a flight ticket for her younger brother which he failed to do.
Olaide said in July this year,Adigwe again gave the accused another N1 million to procure a German visa and flight ticket for her cousin which he did not do.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused instead converted the N2 million to his personal use.
He said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Laws of Lagos State.
Okorie pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Soladoye granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned hearing in the case till Sept. 1.
