A Grade A Customary Court in Mushin, Lagos, has sentenced a landlord,Kehinde Osho, to two months’ imprisonment for poor environment sanitation.
The Court President,Abayomi Ipaye, sentenced the accused of No 1, Ibidunni St. Mushin, after he pleaded guilty to poor hygiene on the premises.
Ipaye, however, gave the landlord an option of N10,000 fine, which, he ordered, must be paid before 4 p.m.
Osho had admitted failure to carry out proper maintenance of his dilapidated bungalow.
A Health Officer of the Mushin Local Government, Raji Razak, had told the court that the landlord failed to repair the bungalow’s leaking roof and dilapidated walls.
Razak said the landlord also failed to keep clean the building’s toilet, kitchen and bathroom.
He said the offence was punishable under Section 7 of the Lagos State Environmental Health Law.
