LASTMA official dragged to court for allegedly assaulting a female motorist.

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who allegedly assaulted a female motorist, has been dragged to court.

The accused, Emmanuel Ezekiel, 34, was alleged to have assaulted Mrs Kubura Saka at the Iponri Housing Estate, Lagos.

Ezekiel is standing trial before Mrs Helen Omisore of the Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of threat to life, assault and causing a breach of public peace.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Grabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the accused, who resides at Adeboyejo Street, Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos, committed the offence on Nov. 19.

According to Ekundayo, the accused forcefully entered and dragged the steering of Saka’s vehicle with her while it was on motion.

He said Ezekiel also assaulted the complainant by slapping her for arguing with him.

The prosecutor added that the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of public peace by assaulting the complainant near her resident on the estate.

According to him, the offence is contrary to Sections 249 and 357 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State and punishable with three years imprisonment.

The magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She then adjourned the case till Jan. 14, 2011 for further hearing.
