The police in Lagos said they had recovered five locally made guns and 25 live ammunition from suspected armed robbery gangs in Lagos in the past two days.

Frank Mba, spokesman for the Police Command, Lagos, gave the figures during an interview.

Mba, a Superintendent of Police, said that the police recovered two locally made double barrelled shot guns and five live cartridges from two suspected armed robbers arrested on Tuesday at 15, Atunrase Str., Mushin.

He said the gang members attempted to rob a motorist of his Honda Accord car when a police team from the Mushin Police Station arrested them.

The spokesman said two pistols and 20 live cartridges were recovered from one suspected armed robber at Ojodu Berger area of Lagos after a tip off.

The suspect led the police operatives to Ibadan in Oyo State, where one other suspect was arrested with a Honda saloon car they took from their victim, Mba said.

He added that one other suspect was arrested in Okene in Kogi following a tip off.

According to him, one Toyota car with registration number JY 477 KJA, earlier robbed from a victim at Tajudeen Olarewaju Estate, Yaba, Lagos, was recovered.

Mba said the cases had been transferred to the State CID, Panti, for further investigation.
