Court fixes Aug. 11 to deliver jugment on divorce suit

A Somolu Customary Court in Lagos has fixed Aug. 11 to determine whether to dissolve a 17-year-old marriage over allegation of desertion levelled against the husband.

The petitioner, Henrietta Kuyoru, 49, had urged the court to dissolve her marriage to Mr Joseph Kuyoru, who allegedly abandoned their matrimonial home since 2005.

“My husband moved out of the matrimonial home and abandoned me and our two children aged 15 years and 17 years,” Henrietta said.

The businesswoman pleaded with the court to dissolve the relationship, saying ``I can no longer continue with the marriage.’’

She said her husband’s whereabouts was unknown, adding that since absconding from home in 2005 he had not been seen.

The court bailiff, Adedeji Olukayode, told the court that they could not serve the respondent the summons personally because no one knew his address.

After three earlier adjournments without taking the petitioner’s testimony, the court president,Modupe Bajulaiye, allowed her to give evidence.

``We are sorry for the delay but we have to be careful because we would not want your children to suffer lack of parental care,” Bajulaiye said.
