Court dissolves blind man's eight-year-old marriage.

The Shomolu Grade A Customary Court, Lagos, has dissolved the eight-year-old marriage between Matthew Olaiya, a blind and his wife, Olufunmilayo.

Dissolving the marriage, the court president, Modupe Bajulaiye, said that efforts at reconciling the couple since the case commenced on April ten had proved abortive.

The petitioner, Olaiya, who has a doctorate in law, told the court that Olufunmilayo was maltreating him and had not been caring for him.

Olaiya told the court to dissolve the marriage because he was no longer interested in the relationship.

The respondent, Olufunmilayo pleaded with the court to save the marriage, saying though her husband had ruined her, she still needed him to take care of their seven-year-old daughther.

The court president granted the couple free divorce and ordered them to maintain the peace.

Bajulaiye ordered the petitioner to pay five thousand naira monthly as upkeep allowance for their daughter.

He also directed him to be responsible for her education, medical expenses and should have free access to her.
