Ports ministerial taskforce uncovers collection of unauthorised fees.

The Ministerial Taskforce on Port Charges and Efficiency has uncovered some irregularities, especially the collection of unauthorised fees in all terminals so far visited.

Taskforce Chairman, who is also a Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Transport, Chinwe Ezenwa said the taskforce had inspected Port and Cargo Terminal ,Tin Can Island Container Terminal and Five Star Logistics.

Ezenwa said the committee had also visited APM Terminals Apapa and ENL Consortium at the Lagos Port Complex .

According to her, the same story on illegal collection of charges and other practices, which made cargo delivery and clearance costs to be exorbitant were observed in all the terminals.

Ezenwa said the committee had met with the chief executives and management personnel at the terminals and also met with the customs areas controllers at both Apapa and Tin -Can Island ports.

She said the meeting was to ensure that all irregularities impeding effective and competitive port operations were removed and that Nigerian shippers were made to enjoy value for their money.

The taskforce was inaugurated on June three by the Minister of Transport, Yusuf Suleiman and has seven days to complete its assignment.
