Fraudster to spend eighteen months in prison.

For defrauding a freight forwarder of two point six million naira, Chiakozie Abengowe is to spend the next eighteen months in prison.

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court , Lagos, which handed down the jail term to Abengowe, however, discharged and acquitted his brother Ugochukwu an alleged accomplice.

The duo pleaded not guilty when they were first arraigned in twenty zero seven on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

They were alleged to have stolen the money from one Kingsley Anosike, a freight forwarder.

Chief Magistrate, Oluyemisi Adelaja, in her judgment, jailed Chiakozie without an option of fine.

She held that the prosecution had successfully proved that the convict was guilty of the charges while Ugochukwu was innocent.

Prosecutor, Sergent Chinalu Uwadione, had told the court that Abengowe collected the money from Anosike under the pretext of supplying him diesel.

Uwadione said the diesel was meant for Marlon Construction Company, Apapa, Lagos, but the convict neither supplied the product nor returned the money.
