NAFDAC SEIZES DRUGS WORTH FIVE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA.

Fake drugs worth five hundred million naira have been seized in Lagos in the past three weeks.

The Drugs seized by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control were imported from Hong Kong aboard a Qatar Airline between May eight and twenty-seven in five different flights.

The Agency Director-General,Paul Orhiiwho announced this paraded two suspects names withheld,for allegedly dealing in fake drugs and said they would soon be arraigned.

Orhii said the consignments of fake drugs were imported through NAHCO shed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos.

According to him, it would be difficult for members of the public to identify the fake products because some of them had NAFDAC numbers and hologram.

He noted that the syndicate had consistently imported the fake drugs in collusion with their counterparts in China.

The Director-General said the agency is working with its Chinese counterpart to arrest some operators and fake drug importers in China.

The fake drugs are anti-malarial and antibiotics and they include Lonart-DS, Lincocin capsule, Artesunate, Ampiclox five hundred milgrams, Persidon and Fungral two hundred milgrams.

Others are Septrin tablet, Postinor two, Perilon tablets B.P five milgrams and Tetanus antitoxin refined one thousand five hundred international unit.
