KAI officials to impound motorcycles plying or parked on road verges.

The Marshal-General of Kick Against Indiscipline Brigade, Captain Danjuma Maigeri has warned that commercial motorcyclists plying road verges in Lagos would henceforth be arrested and prosecuted.

Maigeri said those who continued to flout traffic laws would have their motorcycles impounded while fines would be paid to retrieve such motorcycles.

Maigeri advised commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as okada riders to obey the laws of the state and stop causing environmental nuisance in the course of their operation.

He said the governor, through the Commissioner for Environment, had given KAI the mandate to deal with any motorcyclist contravening the state environmental laws.

According to him, the laws do not permit anybody to convert road verges into okada parks or cover the drainage system in order to convert them to parks.

Maigeri reminded the riders that the setbacks, along the major roads in the state, were reserved for ongoing beautification project.

He warned street traders not to display their wares on the roads, walkways and setbacks earmarked for beautification.

The KAI also warned that such traders would be arrested and their wares impounded.
