Court threatens to seal premises over poor sanitation.

A Grade A Customary Court in Mushin, Lagos has threatened to seal off a building at Bakari Street Mushin, over its unhygienic state.

Court President,Abayomi Ipaye, made the threat when health officials of the Mushin Local Council arraigned the landlady,Risikat Makinde.

Council’s Sanitation Officer,Raji Razak, had on April sixteen, docked Makinde for not repairing broken down facilities in the house.

Razak said she failed to repair the defective roof and the facing board.

He also accused Makinde of failing to plaster the cracked walls and floor, saying the house had no kitchen.

He told the court that the landlady also failed to repair the toilet and the bathroom.

According to him, the landlady is only interested in collecting rent, without caring for the tenants welfare.

Makinde told the court that she permanently resided in Abeokuta, Ogun and she usually visited Lagos only to collect the rent.

Spokesman of the tenants,Isa Aminu, confirmed the dilapidated state of the building, but said tenants were unable to raise money to carry out the needed repairs.

Court president gave the landlady one month’s grace to enable her to effect the repairs.

Ipaye said that would order the sealing off of the property if the landlady failed to effect the repairs, in accordance with Sections seven and eight of the Public Health of Lagos State Laws.
