Court remands technician for removing student's eye.

A twenty six-year old technician has been arraigned at the Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for plucking an eye-ball of a Lagos State University student.

The accused, Peter Romeo, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault before Magistrate, Oluyemisi Adelaja.

Prosecutor, Sergent Benedict Unawunwa, told the court that Romeo used a sharp knife to stab the student on his right eye and forcefully removed his eye causing him grievous harm and permanent disability.

Under cross-examination by the prosecutor, the victim, Femi Olugbeje told the court that the accused came to where he was selling video cassette to purchase some cassettes on the night of the incident.

Olugbeje said the accused refused to pay the money agreed upon for the cassette and in the process, he brought out a knife from his pocket and stabbed him.

He said he resorted to selling video cassette due to the Academic Staff Union of Universities strike to complement and have money for his studies.

Romeo pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The Magistrate adjourned further hearing to June twenty-eight and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
