A Grade A Shomolu Customary Court in Lagos has dissolved a fifteen-year-old marriage between a printer, Ahmed Onayemi and his wife, Abosede, over the husband's alleged cruelty.
Delivering judgment in the suit filed by Abosede, the court's President, Modupe Bajulaiye, said there was no longer affection between the couple.
Bajulaiye said the marriage had broken down irretrievably and efforts by the court to reconcile the estranged couple were rebuffed.
The petitioner in her testimony had alleged constant beating by her husband and urged the court to dissolve the union.
Onayemi also consented to the dissolution of the marriage, saying he was no longer interested in the union.
Bajulaiye, after dissolving the marriage, ordered Onayemi to pay eight thousand Naira monthly for the children’s upkeep allowance.
She also gave custody of the children to Abosede, pending the family court’s decision
