The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has foiled plans by drug traffickers to export sixty-three point one kilogram of narcotic drugs concealed inside fufu and bronze cast out of the country.
Operatives of the Agency foiled the plan at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos.
The drug consist of thirty-six point five five zero kilogram of methamphetamine hidden inside fufu meant for export to Japan while the remaining twenty-six point five five zero kilogram tested positive for amphetamine and was to be exported to South Africa.
Spokesman of the Agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju said Two exporters Uche Emmanuel and Akhabighimhe Bernard with associates in the destination countries of shipment have also been arrested in connection with the crime.
He said the suspects have made confessional statements and are cooperating with investigating officers in both cases.
while Uche Emmanuel who specialises in the exportation of foodstuff said an old friend introduced him into the illicit trade,Akhabighimhe Bernard who is also an exporter, had a similar story of how he got involved in the illicit trade.
The Agency Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade has commended the officers for their sense of alertness and swift action that led to the apprehension of the suspects.
Airport Commander, Hamza Umar said Uche Emmanuel and Akhabighimhe Bernard are among twenty-one suspected drug traffickers arrested at the Airport Command in the month of May twenty ten.
