A petty trader in Lagos is praying a Shomolu Grade A Customary Court in the state to dissolve her seventeen-year-old marriage over alleged drunkenness by her husband.
Thirty-eight-year-old Bilikis Adeyemi, a fish seller, alleged that her husband, Kamorudeen Adeyemi, was irresponsible and spent much of his income on alcohol.
Bilikis said Kamorudeen had not been responsible for the upkeep of their three children aged sixteen, thirteen and nine.
She told the court that she packed out of her matrimonial home since September twenty zero eight as a result of her husband’s alleged misconduct.
Responding, Kamorudeen, who claimed to be a herbalist, admitted that he was a drunkard, but promised to stop beating his wife if she could reconcile with him.
He prayed the court to reconcile him with his wife, saying she had been contributing much to the wellbeing of the family.
The respondent’s uncle, Sule Animashaun, testified that Kamorudeen was irresponsible.
He prayed the court to give the families of the couple two months to make peace between them.
Court President, Modupe Bajulaiye, adjourned the case till August eighteen to enable the families to intervene.
