A Grade 'A' Customary Court, Shomolu, Lagos,has sealed eight apartments at Abiodun Street, Shomolu for the refusal of the occupants to pay refuse disposal rates.
The apartments were sealed following the failure of the occupants to pay to the Private Sector Participants the thirteen thousand naira they promised to settle by June fourteen.
The Lagos State Government engaged Private Sector Participants to complement the efforts of the State Waste Management Agency in refuse collection and disposal.
Gilbert Imesco,one of the occupants, who was brought to court on bench warrant, pleaded with the court to compel his co-tenants to pay up their Private Sector Participants rates.
A sanitation officer with the Shomolu Local Government,Francisca Sofoluke, had told the court that the occupants owed six months rate totaling thirteen thousand naira to the Private Sector Participants for its services.
She said the offence was contrary to Section of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Law of nineteen ninety-four.
In her judgment the Court President,Modupe Bajulaiye said only six of the nine tenants who pledged to pay the debt of thirteen thousand naira contributed eight thousand eight hundred naira, saying the building was still owing four thousand two hundred naira.
She adjourned the case till friday to enable the remaining tenants to appear in court.
