For failing to produce a retired naval officer, for whom he stood as a surety, a forty-two-year-old businessman, Babatunde Babs, was on Friday arraigned in Lagos.
Babs is standing trial at an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on a one-count charge of failure to produce one Navy Captain Rotimi Taiwo Retired.
Prosecutor, Sergent Cosmos Adams, told the court that the accused on June two, at Langbasa Police Station, Lagos, entered into a bail bond of one million naira on behalf of the retired naval chief.
According to the prosecutor, the absconded navy captain has a case to answer, bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and obtaining money under false pretence from one Ashan Anjorin.
He said that Babs entered into the bond to always ensure the presence of the Taiwo in court until the case against him was disposed off.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate,Makanju Oshodi, granted the accused bail in the sum of fifty thousand naira with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July thirteen for further hearing.
