A Mushin Grade A Customary Court in Lagos has given a landlady a three-month ultimatum to repair her building or face sanctions.
The court has threatened to seal off the storey building located at Kajola Street Mushin, over its poor sanitary condition.
President of the court, Abayomi Ipaye, warned the landlady, Abibat Ayilara, to comply with the state’s environmental sanitation laws on or before September seventeen, or face the music.
The Mushin Local Government had filed a suit against the landlady on May twenty, asking the court to compel her to repair the house which it said constituted environmental nuisance.
According to the council’s Sanitation Officer, Raji Razak, the facilities in the house, including the sewage, were in deplorable condition.
The landlady, however, pleaded guilty to the offence of constituting environmental nuisance and urged the court to grant her more time to eject the tenants before carrying out the repairs.
The caretaker of the house,Adeola Abiodun, told the court that he had wanted to repair the house since twenty zero seven, but that the tenants refused to move out.
